HONOLULU, HI (November 27, 2013) – Start off the new year of 2014 with a gastronomic celebration at the launch of Discover Kualoa, a new event that highlights all things rooted within O‘ahu’s Windward coast. Headlining the event is a showcasing of culinary creations, prepared by the hands of local farmers and chefs using fresh products and produce. Everyone is invited to Discover Kualoa on Saturday, January 18, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., at Kualoa Ranch Ahupua’a Hakipu’u.
Discover Kualoa’s taste fest will feature a farmers’ market, which will not only offer countless ready-to-eat creations, but will also showcase produce and products straight from the various farms. Other activities that families and friends will surely enjoy are do-it-yourself Hawaiian crafts such as lauhala weaving, lei making, surfboard shaping and poi pounding.
January’s Discover Kualoa will kick off a seasonal, three-month festival and will be followed by two more Discover Kualoa events: February 15 and March 15 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Each of the three events will highlight a different facet of Hawaiian culture: January will feature farm-to-table feasting, February will celebrate Makahiki season and March will honor both traditional and modern Hawaiian song and dance. Also, the three events will be held at different parts of the ranch: January will be set in Ahupaua’a Hakipu’u, February will be held in Ahupua’a Ka’a’awa and March’s event will be in Ahupua’a Kualoa.
All are invited to explore the natural wonders of Kualoa and learn more about Hawaiian history and the fabled Makahiki season. Kualoa was once regarded as one of the most sacred sites on O‘ahu—home to kings, refuge and training. Today, it is owned and cared for by the sixth generation descendants of Dr. Gerrit Judd. Discover Kualoa is the perfect opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the historic valley while partaking in many other memorable activities and entertainment.
Tickets and tour packages will be available online at www.kualoa.com. Visit http://discover.kualoa.com/ for more information, or stay connected through Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/DiscoverKualoa.
Discover Kualoa is part of a larger campaign of events known as “Discover Our Islands” that was launched to recognize and honor Hawai‘i’s unique culture. Neighborhoods across the state — including Kaka‘ako, North Shore, Waikiki and Maui — hold similar events throughout the year, recognizing the unique characteristics and features of each area.
